Jill's
father, Mark Jacobs, talks about himself: I
grew up in Princeton,[Minnesota], played your standard
football, basketball, and baseball. I was always a
sports fan. I watched all the state hockey
tournaments during the 60's. All the great
International Falls teams, the St. Paul Johnson teams
and the Mpls Southwest teams. I graduated in '70.
I did play hockey Intramurals in college, but obviously
with no skills, but just enjoyment of playing. But
during that time of high school the Northstars started
up and became a big fan of them also. I just
always loved watching hockey. Our
oldest son (who played basketball in high school) wanted
to switch to hockey in 5th grade, but we hmmm and hawed
to the point of not doing it. Actually both he and
I regret not making the switch. But, we started
Jeff at Age 5, in hockey, and you could say our hockey
parenting begin. There
is nothing like being a hockey parent, right? The
comraderie of the parents, the kids, the trips, the
joys, the disappointments, taking care of other kids
when their parents couldn't make it to a game or
tournament. In the end it was the friendships that
sustained it all.
Jill
started skating at age four, and playing hockey at age five.
She grew
up watching her older brother, Jeff Jacobs,
all the time and loved it.
As Jill tells
it:
I have lived in Marshall my whole life and
grew up playing here at the local rink. (started
with mini-mites for a couple years and then joined
girls 12U.) I would join Jeff in shooting around in the
garage, and he'd give me little pointers, but with
the 5 year age difference we never really got to
play together on the ice. I played more street
hockey with the neighborhood boys than anyone. Before playing High School hockey I played
mini-mites, girls 12U and 15U.
At one of my first hockey practices, I
stepped onto the ice and quickly came back off
telling my dad that my skates were really
hurting my feet. He sat me down and looked at
my skates only to see that he had tied them on
the wrong feet.

Jill
had a great year; she had a lot of extra
responsibility this year being one of the
captains. And
still managed to put up great numbers, she one
of those players that's just fun to watch, she
knows where to be on the ice; has great
stickhandling abilities .She is also one of those players that is
a natural scorer, she really understands the
game. She was
part of a team that set high goals and worked
extremely hard to achieve those goals, it was
fun to be part of it.Coach Schroeder

We had a very successful season; it was fun
to watch the team set expectations in June
and work so hard to make them come true.
Jill really
stepped up as senior captain should.
Her and the
other captains got everyone focus when they
needed to be. Good

thing.

Jill
lead the Marshall Tigers to their first ever Section
Championship and State Tournament berth: [ Sec 3A Champs ][All About Jill]
Jill is the
quiet-leader of the Lady Tigers: Marshall's girls
hockey team. She leads by example. Her style of
play is with a genteel (refined) sense of grace and dignity.
A style that has helped the Lady Tigers to the 2007
Section 3A Championship and a berth in the State Tournament.
A style that has helped her accumulate 337 points thus far
in her high school career. John of MNPuck,

Even with all of their
personal records, the biggest thing Jill
and the other seniors want in their final high school
year is another trip to the state tournament, according to
Coach Schroeder.
“They are working hard
to make it happen. Everything we talk about is about the
team. We win or lose as a team,” he said. “If they get that
individual recognition they get it, but we don’t worry about
that much as a team.” Marshall
